Reinventing the Way Nigerians Invest in real estate through fractional ownership

Jointly is a real estate platform that allows you the opportunity to invest in real estate through fractional investing(co-investment). The need to create an alternative means to invest in real estate birthed the platform - Jointly. This project was a website design that was to spur curiosity and interest in a first-time visitor which would lead to a sign up on the web application.

What was the problem?

A lot of people are eager to invest in real estate which is like a dream for most average working class Nigerians - at least from our findings. But there is a big and common discouragement - Most of them can not invest because of the high cost of investing. So what other ways can they invest in real estate? How can Jointly be a solution to this problem?

As we continued our discovery, we found out that even with the great opportunities that fractional investment had, not everyone knew how it worked, or had little to no knowledge about it.

The goal was...

To create a platform that educates users on the alternative means to invest which will consequently lead to sign ups on the web application where they can invest.

Research & Ideation

So the first step was to educate! So we intentionally thought out a platform ( a website that would give you just enough information about fractional investment in real estate) that would easily onboard you into making the decision to sign up and invest.

Due to nature of this project, we made use of existing data gotten from sales and marketing to determine

  • The User Journey Map
  • The Persona
  • Fears (Pain points)
  • And their desires.

This was so much easier and interesting as I worked with the marketing team to understand the data gotten from the survey carried out on current users and prospects, this was key to our understanding of how these users understood real estate investing and how they were open to alternative ways to invest in real estate.

From this research we also determined the necessary information that would help in ideating solutions that will solve the problem.

So I started cooking!

To achieve the goal of creating an intuitive website I needed to determine the structure this led to the creation of the information architecture and a simple user flow. This helped to determin a more user-friendly website .

Further Iteration

With the user flow set and understood, we needed to gain more clarity and understanding so I came up with a moode board, this helped in creating lo-fi wireframes that helped to speed up iterations and feed backs from other team memebers.

Solution - Design

With the goal of this project as our focal point we combined our UX and marketing expertise which helped us to come up wit a simple and well detailed website.

Feed back and result

At the time of the launch and the first MVP jointly was able to generate over 1.5k leads in our waiting list and we have double sign-ups since then. We are consistently iterating on the website to give first-time users a creative experience and onboarding on the website.

There were a couple of difficulties faced.

  1. Having to collaborate with other departments, mostly when they are not design oriented. I understool that from a business stands, we needed as musch inputs as possible to be able to meet the company goals
  2. Slow feed backs, feebacks on was a major issue at some point, so i had to take up some decision as the team head in other to move the needle and make progress
  3. Design-wise, I was faced with the decision of how best to articulate my designs to be simples, educative and how it could sell that is be inline with the needs of the user and business. I found my way around it by making sure I worked from a end-goal perspective rather than just designing.

Overall as my first major project working onthis project was a great experience.
